Syria-born Imam Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi was a popular Islamic scholar and hadith expert who lived from 1233 until 1277 CE. His research on hadith and Islamic spirituality, along with his contributions to Islamic jurisprudence, are the things for which he became most known for. Imam al-Nawawi was educated in Damascus after starting his schooling in the town of Nawa in southern Syria. Later on, he travelled on travels to multiple Muslim countries to study with some of the most prominent scholars of the time, including Ibn al-Attar and Ibn al-Salah.
